About Garganta del Diablo
The Garganta del Diablo of Tilcara is a canyon formed by the Huasamayo River, on the outskirts of the village. The rock walls and the channeling of the watercourse characterize the place. Despite the same name, this gorge is different from the fall at the Cataratas del Iguazú and from the formation near Cafayate.
Visits are accompanied by the Ayllu Mama Qolla community, involved in the area's preservation. From the access point, paths allow observation of the canyon and progression along sections near the riverbed toward the waterfall, depending on local conditions. Water volume and the possible route can vary throughout the year.
To get there, choose between the mountain hike and a transfer to the entrance, bearing in mind there is still a walk. Bring water and footwear with good grip, and adapt the plan to the weather reported by the community. Between December and March, rains are usually more common; prepare the outing in advance, without expecting a fixed appearance of the waterfall.
