About Cabildo de Humahuaca
The Cabildo de Humahuaca occupies one side of the city's historic core. The current building, from the 20th century, replaced an earlier structure linked to local administration. Its façade and tower are part of the ensemble that brings together the square, the church and civil authority in the urban center.
The clock and the mechanism associated with the figure of San Francisco Solano help identify the tower. The architecture can be observed from the public space in front of the building, without relying on a presentation of the mechanism. The visit is also worthwhile for the sense of scale between the building and the nearby streets.
Include the Cabildo in a walk around the square and reserve interior visits only for authorized areas. As the building has municipal functions, tourist circulation should respect its activities. To attend any presentation of the tower, confirm the schedule before going; observing the façade is of interest in itself.
