Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

Check before booking. Meersburg has no train station. The most practical way is to get to Constança, either by train or via Zurich Airport, and cross by ferry from Konstanz-Staad, which runs day and night year-round. There are also buses from the stations at Friedrichshafen and Uhldingen-Mühlhofen and, in season, boats from several towns on the lake.

How many days

One day is enough for the castle, the palace, both parts of the town and a walk along the lakeside. With another half day you can include the pile dwellings of Unteruhldingen and the church of Birnau, a few kilometers away.

When to go

From April to October the town is livelier, boats run and the Neues Schloss is open every day. September and October are grape-harvest time, with newly made wine in the taverns. In winter, from December to February, there is less activity and the palace opens only on some days; the castle is open year-round.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The town is explored on foot, with a climb between the lower and upper parts. The ferry links Meersburg and Constança, and regional buses go to Unteruhldingen, Birnau and Friedrichshafen. Those arriving by car should use the parking lots at the town entrance, since the center has narrow streets.
