About Leuchtturm Warnemünde
The Leuchtturm Warnemünde is the neighbourhood's lighthouse, inaugurated in 1898. It stands about 37 metres above mean sea level, with a white-clad brick tower and two galleries near the top. It still functions as a navigation light.
A granite spiral staircase leads to the two viewing platforms. From the top you can see the wide beach, the Alter Strom, the harbour exit with the ships and, on clear days, much of the coastline.
In the visiting season, which usually runs from Easter to early October, the lighthouse is open for climbing. Outside that period it can only be seen from the outside.
At the foot of the lighthouse is the Teepott, with its shell-shaped concrete roof, and the start of the beach promenade.
