About Olympia-Skistadion

The Olympia-Skistadion was built in 1934 for the IV Winter Olympic Games, held in February 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The opening and closing ceremonies and the Nordic skiing events took place there. The Games were held under the Nazi regime, which used them for propaganda, and that is part of the site's history.

The stadium sits at the foot of the Große Olympiaschanze, the large ski-jump hill, which has been renovated several times over the decades. The current ramp, with modern lines, is part of the Four Hills Tournament, whose Garmisch stage usually takes place on January 1.

Outside competition days, the area is open for walking and serves as a starting point for the Partnachklamm and the Eckbauerbahn cable car. You can see the ramp and the stands up close.
