About Establecimiento Juanicó

The Establecimiento Juanicó is at km 38 on Ruta 5, near the village of Juanicó, about 12 km from the city of Canelones. The property has belonged to the Familia Deicas since 1979 and is the base for the family's wines, including the Don Pascual line.

The history of the place is long. The lands belonged to the Jesuits in the 18th century, and the main building, the present Cava de Preludio, is associated with the first wine fermentations carried out by them. After the expulsion of the Society of Jesus in 1767, the property changed hands and, in 1830, passed to Francisco Juanicó, who gave his name to the region. In the 1940s the state company Ancap planted vineyards there to produce brandy.

The Cava de Preludio is underground, with stable humidity and temperature. The best barrels, of French and American oak, rest there for up to 30 months. The guided tour goes through the vineyard, winery and cellar, ending with a tasting.

The winery's restaurant offers a menu that changes with the seasons, using ingredients from neighboring producers and its own organic vegetable garden, designed to pair with the house wines. The winery has an enotourism department that schedules visits and lunches.
