About Termas del Daymán

The Termas del Daymán are at km 478 of Ruta 3, on the banks of the Río Daymán, 10 km from downtown Salto. The hot water appeared in 1957, when a drilling by the state company Ancap was searching for oil and hit the Guarani Aquifer. In 1960 the land was transferred to the Intendencia de Salto, and in the 1970s it became a tourist center.

The spring comes from 2,000 meters deep at 46 °C and delivers about 160,000 liters per hour, according to the intendencia. The water is naturally thermal, odorless, with iodine, iron, calcium, magnesium and fluoride. The pools in the thermal parks reach 44 °C in the hottest ones, and in summer their temperature is often reduced.

Around it a small village grew with more than 4,000 beds in hotels, apart-hotels, cabins and camping, as well as restaurants, spas and a small bus station.

The Acuamanía water park is next door, and several hotels have thermal pools exclusive to guests. The bank of the Río Daymán, with native vegetation, completes the visit.

How much time to set aside

From half a day to a full day. Those who stay on site usually alternate baths in the morning and late afternoon.

Best time

The park is open year-round. From May to September the hot water makes more of a difference, and long weekends and Semana de Turismo pack the place. On weekdays outside holiday periods attendance is lower.

How to get there

It's 10 km from Salto's center via Ruta 3, heading south, about 15 minutes by car. A city bus line links the center and the port of Salto with Daymán, and there are long-distance buses that stop at the local mini bus station.

Tip

Bring flip-flops, a towel and a bottle of water: staying too long in the hotter pools is tiring. Alternate with the cooler pools and take breaks in the shade. Check the admission price before you go and whether there is a discount for guests of nearby hotels.
