About Muelle Negro

The Muelle Negro, or Muelle Ferroviario, was built by the English in the 19th century for the operations of the Compañía del Ferro Carril Noroeste, whose station is about 500 meters away. It is an iron structure that extends over the rio Uruguai, in a port area declared a Historical Monument.

After serving as a cargo quay, it was restored by the Intendencia de Salto as a public promenade. From the top of the structure you can see the wide river and, on the opposite bank, the Argentine city of Concordia.

Around it is the port area, with the small squares Roosevelt and de los Recuerdos, the Aduana buildings and the port cranes. From there, to the north and south, the costaneras that run along the river depart.

The Costanera Norte has green space for walking, running and spending the afternoon with family. The Costanera Sur mixes old houses, modern residences, parks and viewpoints over the river.
