About Playa de la Viuda

Playa de la Viuda is the beach south of Punta del Diablo, a long, open stretch that continues toward the Punta Palmar lighthouse. It is the village's best-known surf spot: peaks form offshore that attract surfers year-round.

In summer the beach hosts competitions with local and neighboring-country athletes, and there are surf schools in the village. On days without strong waves, the wide sand is good for long walks, with dunes on one side and the sea on the other.

The beaches of Punta del Diablo add up to about 10 km. North of the rocky headland that gives the village its name are Playa de los Pescadores, the most family-friendly beach where artisanal fishing boats bring the catch of the day, and Playa del Rivero. Further on, Playa Grande borders Parque Nacional de Santa Teresa.

Green turtles, a threatened species, live in the region's waters. If you find one on the sand, keep your distance and alert the lifeguards.
