About Bodega Zubizarreta

Bodega Zubizarreta began with a Basque immigrant who arrived in the Americas in the early 20th century, and the family has been producing wine since 1957. Today the winery is in its third generation, near Carmelo, on lands that once belonged to the old Calera de las Huérfanas estancia.

There are about 40 hectares of vineyards, planted with tannat, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, moscatel de Hamburgo, sauvignon blanc and marselan. The guided tour goes through the vineyards, the presses and the fermentation and bottling tanks and ends in the tasting room.

Casa de Aitona, an early-20th-century manor house restored in 2001, witnessed the company's beginnings. The name means 'grandfather's house' in Basque and honors the family patriarch. This is where the more elaborate tastings and lunches are held.

Options range from a basic visit to tastings with a platter of cheeses and cold cuts, a three-course paired lunch and a picnic among the vineyards.
