About Nietzsche-Haus
The Nietzsche-Haus, Chesa Nietzsche in Romansh, is the house in Sils Maria where the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche rented a room. He first arrived in July 1881 and returned every summer from 1883 to 1888.
The house has been a museum since 1960. The collection displays manuscripts, letters and Nietzsche's published works, as well as photographs and temporary exhibitions related to him and to writers and artists who stayed in Sils.
On walks along the lakeshore, Nietzsche reached the Chastè peninsula; on its tip a plaque bears a passage from Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
The museum opens in the afternoons, Tuesday to Sunday, during the summer and winter seasons. It is closed between late October and early December and between April and early June.
