About Museum Engiadinais
The Museum Engiadinais, the Museum of the Engadina, occupies a building completed in 1906 by architect Nicolaus Hartmann, designed to house the collection of everyday objects gathered by Riet Campell. The façade follows the model of the Engadine house, with thick walls and small windows.
Inside, the museum recreates interiors from five centuries, with wood-paneled rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and furniture from valley houses. The objects show how people lived high in the mountains, with long winters and houses closed against the cold.
A renovation expanded the space for new collections and for a permanent exhibition about Romansh, the language of the Engadina. The visit includes an audio guide in seven languages.
The museum is open Thursday to Sunday during the winter and summer seasons, with breaks in spring and late autumn.
