About Diavolezza
Diavolezza is a mountain pass in the Bernina massif, above the valley of the Passo del Bernina. The cable car departs from the Bernina Diavolezza station at 2,096 m and reaches the upper station at 2,978 m in about 7 minutes.
From the terrace you can see Piz Bernina, Piz Palü and the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers; Pers is a branch of the Morteratsch. At the top there is a restaurant and the Berghaus Diavolezza, a mountain hotel with rooms and dormitories.
The Glacier Experience trail is a waymarked circuit of about 1 h 30 min from the upper station, featuring polished rock and moraines near the Pers glacier. Walking on the glacier is only allowed with a guide, as on outings from the Pontresina mountaineering school. From June to October, two via ferratas climb Piz Trovat.
The cable car operates year-round, with short breaks, and is wheelchair accessible. The valley station houses an interactive exhibition about glacier melt and the climate. Check operating times before you go up, because the weather changes quickly at altitude.
