The city
Chur is the capital of the canton dos Grisões, in the Rhine valley, and one of the oldest cities in Switzerland, born from a Roman post called Curia. The old town, almost entirely pedestrian, has Praça Arcas with its colorful houses, and the church of São Martinho with stained glass by Augusto Giacometti. Above the town are the cathedral and the Museu Rético, and the Museu de Arte dos Grisões displays works by the Giacometti family and Segantini. A cable car climbs from the center to the Brambrüesch. From the station depart the trains of the Ferrovia Rética and the Bernina Express. German is spoken; in the canton romanche and Italian are also official.
