About Queen: The Studio Experience

Queen bought the Mountain Studios, housed in the Casino Barrière de Montreux, in 1978 and recorded there until 1995. The band created much of the material for six albums at the studio, and Freddie Mercury recorded his final vocals there.

The exhibition recreates the studio rooms. Handwritten lyrics, instruments, costumes and boxes of tapes with the original titles and the names the songs eventually received are on display. Audio and interactive screens complete the visit.

The space operates under the auspices of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a foundation linked to Queen that fights HIV and AIDS, which receives visitors' donations and the shop's profits.

The casino itself has another musical story. In December 1971, during a show, a flare fired by a fan set the building on fire. The band Deep Purple, which was due to record there, moved to a hotel in Territet, and the episode became the song "Smoke on the Water."
