About Ouchy
Ouchy was a lakeside village and the port of Lausanne. Today it is the lakeside neighborhood, 372 m above sea level, with tree-lined quays, gardens and views of the French Alps on the far side of the lake.
In the middle of the waterfront stands the Château d'Ouchy, a hotel built on the site of a medieval castle, next to the square where CGN boats dock. On Sundays a market occupies the area near the metro station, and an old carousel operates by the quays.
To the east, the lakeside walk takes about ten minutes to the Musée Olympique and its park. To the west the quays continue toward Vidy, where the headquarters of the Comité Olímpico Internacional is located.
Ouchy is connected to the center by the metro m2, which replaced the funicular opened in 1877. The line, automatic and on rubber tires, is 5.95 km long with 14 stations, and rises 338 m between Ouchy-Olympique and Croisettes, with gradients of up to 12% in some sections. The trip to the train station takes only a few minutes.
