About Musée Olympique
Lausanne hosts the headquarters of the Comité Olímpico Internacional, and the IOC has recognized the city as the Olympic capital since 1994. The Musée Olympique opened in 1993 at the initiative of Juan Antonio Samaranch, then president of the IOC. After about two years of renovation, it reopened in December 2013.
The permanent exhibition occupies three floors and is divided into three parts: the Olympic world, the Games and the Olympic spirit. The collection has more than 10,000 objects, including torches, medals, uniforms and athletes' equipment, as well as videos and interactive screens.
The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, and the visit includes videos of ceremonies and of memorable competitions in the history of the Games.
Around the building, the Parc Olympique steps down to the waterfront, with sport-themed sculptures among lawns and gardens, and the walk through the park can be enjoyed even without visiting the exhibition.
