Grindelwald – Berna Destination Interlaken and the Jungfrau about 76 km from Berna

  • Grindelwald 1 km

Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

From Interlaken Ost, the Berner Oberland-Bahn train reaches Grindelwald in about 35 minutes, stopping beforehand at Grindelwald Terminal. From Zurich Airport (ZRH) it's roughly 150 km. Check before you buy.

How many days

One day is enough for the Jungfraujoch or for First with the Bachalpsee. With two or three days you can add Männlichen, the hike to Kleine Scheidegg and the Gletscherschlucht, and you have leeway to wait for a clear day.

When to go

From June to September high trails are usually snow-free and all cable cars operate. From December to March it is ski and sled season. In late October and November, and parts of April and May, several cable cars stop for maintenance.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The train comes from Interlaken, local buses link the village to the Terminal and the cable cars, and the centre is walkable. Parking in the centre is difficult in high season.
