About The Model Village
The Model Village is a scale model of the village of Bourton-on-the-Water made from the same Cotswold stone, at a one-to-nine scale. It was built by local craftsmen over five years and opened in 1937 in the garden of the pub Old New Inn, and is protected as heritage by Historic England.
The model reproduces the houses, shops, the Igreja de São Lourenço and the river Windrush with its bridges, as they were in the 1930s. The roofs are stone slates, and the miniature plants are pruned to keep the scale. Inside it there is a model of the model, and inside that, another, smaller one.
Next to it is an exhibition of dollhouses and miniature scenes. The visit is short and appeals to children, and the entrance is a few steps from the village's main bridge.
