How many days

One or two days: one for the Science and Industry Museum, Castlefield, the John Rylands Library and the cathedral; another for the National Football Museum, a stadium tour and the Northern Quarter.

When to go

May to September offers long days; it rains frequently at any time of year, so museums are useful back-ups. During the football season (August–May), match days fill hotels and transport.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The centre is compact, and the Metrolink tram reaches the stadiums, Salford Quays and the airport. If you drive, remember traffic is on the left and central roads can be very congested.
