The city
Windermere is the arrival town for the Lake District, with the train station up on the hill and the neighbouring Bowness on the shore of Lago Windermere, the largest in England. From there depart the pleasure boats, the ferry to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's house, and buses to Ambleside and Grasmere, where the poet Wordsworth lived. The boat museum lies between the two.
