About St George's Market
St George's Market is Belfast's last covered Victorian market, built between 1890 and 1896, with an iron structure, glass roof and red-brick facade with stone detailing. It stands on May Street near the River Lagan on the site of a market that has existed since the 17th century. It was restored in the late 1990s and now operates at weekends.
On Friday the Variety Market features stalls selling clothing, second-hand items, antiques and books, as well as fresh fish. On Saturday the City Food, Craft and Garden Market brings together local producers offering breads, cheeses, meats, sweets and crafts. On Sunday the market mixes food, crafts and antiques. Every day there is ready-to-eat food from various countries and the Ulster fry, a breakfast featuring potato bread and soda bread, traditional in Northern Ireland.
Musicians play live on the central stage on weekend mornings and the tables among the stalls fill up. The market also hosts events and concerts on other days.
The market usually opens Friday to Sunday from morning until early afternoon; check times beforehand.
