About Thermae Bath Spa
The Thermae Bath Spa is the only place in Britain where you can bathe in natural thermal water. It opened in 2006 in the centre of Bath, in a complex that combines a new glass‑and‑stone building by architect Nicholas Grimshaw and restored Georgian buildings, just a few steps from the Roman Baths.
The water comes from the same springs that fed the Roman baths and reaches the pools naturally warmed and rich in minerals. On the ground floor is the Minerva Bath, an indoor pool with currents and jets. Above are aromatic steam rooms, with circular glass cabins, and a relaxation room. At the top, the rooftop pool, open year‑round, has views of the tower of Bath Abbey and the surrounding hills, and is most popular in the late afternoon and at night when the city lights come on.
Across the street, the Cross Bath, a small open‑air Georgian bath over one of the three springs, can be booked separately for smaller sessions. The spa also offers massages and treatments.
Entry is by sessions of a few hours, with robe and towel included, and there is usually a minimum age of 16. At weekends and in the evenings queues and bookings sell out quickly.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
The standard session is usually 2 hours; there are longer packages, some including a meal.
Best time
Early in the morning on a weekday for a quieter rooftop pool, or in the late afternoon in winter, with the sky darkening and the water warm against the cold. Book ahead, as weekends and evenings sell out.
How to get there
It is on Hot Bath Street in the centre of Bath, a 3‑minute walk from the Roman Baths and a 5‑minute walk from Bath Spa station.
Tip
Leave the rooftop pool until the end of your session, near sunset. Bring proper flip‑flops or hire them at the spa, and avoid wearing silver jewellery, which can tarnish with the minerals in the water.
