Pinhão – Vila Real Destination Vale do Douro
How to get there
-
Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro (OPO) Maia · 145 km
-
Estação do Pinhão 1 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
From Porto, the Linha do Douro takes about two and a half hours to reach the Estação do Pinhão. From Régua it's about 25 km via the N222 road along the river, or half an hour by train. The nearest airport is Porto (OPO). Confirm before booking.
How many days
One day is enough for the station, a quinta with a tasting, and the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos. Staying at an estate in the region allows you to visit others at leisure and take a boat trip on the river.
When to go
September and October are usually harvest season, with a lot of activity at the estates. Spring brings green hillsides. In the height of the European summer, the heat in the valley bottom is often strong.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
The village is walked on foot and some quintas are just a few minutes from the station. For higher viewpoints and estates, a car or taxi helps. If you drive, do not drink at tastings.
