How many days
Half a day is enough for the Museu do Douro and the quay. One day allows you to include the Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura and a quinta. Peso da Régua serves as a base for two or three days in the valley.
When to go
September and October are usually the grape-harvest season. Spring has green vines. July and August are often very hot. In winter it is cold and there are fewer boats.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
In the center, no: the museum, the quay and the station are within walking distance. For the Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura and the quintas on the hillsides, a car or taxi makes a difference.
