The city
Fortified town of Alto Minho, on the Portuguese bank of the Minho river, facing Tui in Spain. The star-shaped fortress, with two citadels connected by a bridge over the moat, has guarded the border since the Middle Ages, and the streets inside are full of shops and restaurants. The international iron bridge, with two levels, links the two towns. It is a stop for the Celta train and for the Caminho Português de Santiago.
