About Fundação de Serralves
The Fundação de Serralves brings together three spaces on a large estate in Porto's western area. The Museu de Arte Contemporânea, opened in 1999, is the work of local architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, winner of the Pritzker Prize, with white galleries and windows facing the park.
The Casa de Serralves, pink in color, is one of the main examples of art déco in Portugal. It was built between 1925 and 1944 for the count of Vizela and today hosts exhibitions.
The park, about 18 hectares, has formal gardens, tree-lined avenues, a lake, a farm with animals and a rose garden. The Treetop Walk, a walkway suspended among the tree canopies, opened in 2019.
The program includes contemporary art exhibitions from Portugal and abroad and, once a year, Serralves em Festa, with cultural activities over several days.
