About Praia da Nazaré

Praia da Nazaré runs along the village front, in a shell-shaped bay protected by the Sítio promontory to the north. The sand is wide and pale, with the promenade and restaurants on one side.

Fishing is still part of village life. On the sand near the promenade, women dry mackerel, sardines and other fish in net racks in the sun; the dried fish is sold right there.

Some women wear the traditional seven-skirt costume, with layered skirts, a shawl and an apron. High‑prowed boats painted in bright colors sit on the sand.

In the European summer the beach fills with striped booths. From the top of the cliff, the Miradouro do Suberco shows the whole bay.
