About Télésiège de Vianden (Teleférico de Vianden)
The Vianden cable car is a chairlift with open chairs that departs from the lower part of the town, near the Our river, and climbs the forest slope up to the top of the hill opposite the castle, at about 440 metres above sea level. It is the only chairlift of this type in Luxembourg.
During the ascent, the town and the castle appear across the valley. Up there, a café with a terrace and viewing points provide Vianden’s best-known view: the castle on the spur, the town descending to the river and the Our valley, with Germany on the opposite bank.
Those who don’t want to descend by chairlift can return on foot via a forest trail that passes beside the castle and crosses the medieval town back to the starting point. The walk is downhill and takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
The chairlift operates seasonally, generally from early April until mid-October, and does not run in strong winds or storms.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
About 10 minutes up; with the viewpoint and the walk down, allow 1 to 1½ hours.
Best time
Late morning or late afternoon, when the light falls on the castle. The season usually runs from April to October, and operation depends on the weather; check before you go.
How to get there
The lower station is on rue du Sanatorium, near the Our river and the bridge, a few minutes' walk from the bus stop. There is parking along the riverbank.
Tip
Take the chairlift up and walk down the trail that runs beside the castle: that way you reach the castle entrance without tackling the slope. Bring a jacket, because it’s windy on the chairs.
