About Caves St Martin

The Caves St Martin are located on the outskirts of Remich, on the road to Stadtbredimus, at the foot of the vineyard-covered slopes above the Mosela. The estate produces Luxembourg wines and crémant and stores the bottles in galleries dug directly into the limestone, which total almost 1 km and keep temperature and humidity stable year-round.

The guided tour walks through the galleries and explains the traditional method, the same as Champagne: the base wine receives sugar and yeast, ferments a second time in the bottle and rests lying down for months; afterwards the bottles are gradually turned and tilted until the sediment gathers in the neck and is removed. In the galleries you can see stacks of bottles and the racks used in this process.

At the end there is a tasting of crémant or the estate's wines. The shop sells the cave's wines and sparkling wines as well as products from other Mosela wineries.

The visit is the easiest way to understand crémant, the drink most associated with the region, and fits into an afternoon in Remich, a 15-minute walk from the esplanade.
