About Pila
Pila is a mountain station in a basin at about 1,800 metres altitude, south of Aosta, in the comune of Gressan. Until the 1960s it was only a summer pasture area. Since 1957 there has been a cable car that leaves Aosta, near the train station, and goes directly up to the station.
In winter, Pila has runs for various levels, with cable cars and chairlifts reaching up to about 2,700 metres, and it is popular with families and skiers from Aosta and from Turim. In the snow season the area has ski schools and equipment rental.
In summer, the slopes become hiking and mountain-bike trails, with a bike park, and the cable cars take visitors to the highest points. Its position in the basin gives a wide view of the valley and of the massifs of Mont Blanc, Cervino, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso.
The cable-car ascent, about 20 minutes, is already worth it for the view of the Aosta valley opening below.
