The city
Lucca is a flat town entirely surrounded by Renaissance walls, a half-hour by train from Pisa. On the walls runs a tree-lined promenade of about 4 km, suitable for walking or cycling. Inside them are the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, an oval square over the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre, the Torre Guinigi with trees on top, the churches of San Michele in Foro and the Duomo di San Martino, and the house where the composer Giacomo Puccini was born.

Romanesque church on the site of the ancient Roman forum, with a very tall façade of marble arcades and the statue of the archangel Michael on top.
The house where composer Giacomo Puccini was born in 1858, now a museum with the family's furniture, scores, costumes and the piano on which he composed Turandot.
