About Villa di Poppea

Oplontis was a seaside suburb between Pompeia and Herculano, also covered by the eruption of 79 AD. The Villa di Poppea, or Villa A, is attributed to Popeia Sabina, the second wife of the emperor Nero, because of an inscription found on the site.

The villa impresses with its size and wall paintings, among the best preserved in the region: columns and doors painted in perspective, gardens with birds, theatrical masks and landscapes. There are reception rooms, private baths, a kitchen and a large pool.

It is much less visited than Pompeia and allows you to see the frescoes calmly. It is part of the same UNESCO World Heritage Site and is managed by the Parque Arqueológico de Pompeia.
