About Seceda
The Seceda, Secëda in Ladin, is a 2,519-meter mountain at the foot of the Odle group, in the Puez-Odle Nature Park, part of the Dolomites listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. From the top, the terrain is a sloping meadow that suddenly ends in a wall, and in front rise the pointed towers of the Odle, the most iconic image of Val Gardena.
The ascent starts in the center of Ortisei. A covered moving walkway takes you from Piazza Sant'Antonio to the lower station; from there a gondola rises to Furnes and a cable car reaches the summit. Up there, the view spans the Dolomites, including the Sassolungo, the Sella and the Marmolada, and much of the Alps of Alto Adige.
From Seceda depart trails for all levels. The most popular follows the ridge and descends through meadows to the mountain huts and Col Raiser, from where another gondola drops to Santa Cristina. The mountain's rocks hold marine fossils, and an ichthyosaur found there is in the Museum Gherdëina.
In summer, the cable cars usually run from May until early November; in winter, Seceda is a ski area, with a season from December to March or April.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
Half a day with the ascent and a short walk. A full day if you do the route to Col Raiser.
Best time
At the first cable car departure in the morning, when there are fewer people and the light hits the Odle from the side. July and August are the busiest months; September and October tend to be quieter. With low clouds, the view disappears.
How to get there
From the center of Ortisei, the La Curta moving walkway takes about 6 minutes from Piazza Sant'Antonio to the station. Ortisei–Furnes cable car and Furnes–Seceda cableway to the top. Parking in Ortisei is limited: prefer the bus or walking.
Tip
Buy the cable car ticket in advance on the official website during high season. Bring a warm jacket and a windbreaker: it is much colder at the top than in the village. Dolomiti Supersummer passes are not valid on these cableways.
