About Alpe di Siusi

Alpe di Siusi, Seiser Alm in German and Mont Sëuc in Ladin, is the largest high-altitude pasture plateau in Europe, with over 50 km² between 1,680 and 2,350 meters. These are meadows used for hay and grazing, dotted with wooden huts, with the jagged profile of the Sciliar on one side and the Sassolungo on the other.

The plateau is part of the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park and has access rules. In season, the road is closed to private traffic between 09:00 and 17:00, and the upper parking lots require a reservation. For that reason most visitors go up by cable car: from Ortisei, the Ortisei–Alpe di Siusi cable car departs from the village center; from the other side, the Siusi allo Sciliar cable car reaches Compaccio.

Up on the plateau the trails are largely flat or gently uphill, good for families. There are huts serving Tyrolean food and internal buses between Compaccio and Saltria. From the plateau you can see the Sella, the Marmolada, the Catinaccio and the Odle.

In summer the cableways usually operate from May until early November. In winter, from December to March or April, the plateau becomes a ski and cross-country ski area.
