About Piramidi di terra del Renon
The Renon earth pyramids, Erdpyramiden in German, are columns of clay and gravel formed by the erosion of former glacial deposits. Rain carves grooves in the ground; where there is a large stone, it protects the clay beneath and forms a column with a stone 'hat' on top.
The columns change over time. When a column thins, the stone falls and the pyramid disappears, while others form nearby. On the Renon they are among the tallest in Europe, and old local people called them towers of landslides.
There are three viewpoints: Longomoso, Soprabolzano and Auna di Sotto. Longomoso, near Collalbo, is the most visited, with a marked path and viewpoints over the valley. Soprabolzano is reached by cable car; Longomoso and Auna di Sotto by bus or on foot along the plateau trails.

Tip
Stay on marked trails: the slopes are unstable and the columns can break down easily. Wear shoes with good soles.
