About Lungomare Nazario Sauro

The Lungomare Nazario Sauro is the best-known stretch of Bari's seafront. It begins near the old town wall and the Teatro Margherita, built over the sea in 1914, and continues south with a wide promenade, benches and a balustrade facing the Adriatic.

Along the avenue are monumental public buildings from the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Palazzo della Provincia, with its clock tower, which houses the Pinacoteca Metropolitana. Nearby, the Palazzo dell'Acquedotto Pugliese has interiors decorated by Duilio Cambellotti on the theme of water.

The lungomare is the place locals stroll at the end of the day: people walking, running, fishing or stopping to look at the sea. On the old town side, near the port, are the Molo San Nicola and the fishermen's stalls, where fish and seafood are sold and eaten.

For those looking for sand, the urban beaches are further south, such as Pane e Pomodoro and Torre Quetta, a few kilometers from the center.
