About Museo del Territorio Casa Pezzolla
The Museo del Territorio, known as Casa Pezzolla or the museum of peasant civilization, occupies a group of 15 contiguous and interconnected trulli, built and assembled in different phases. It is the largest group of trulli open to visitors in the town.
The name comes from Giacomo Pezzolla, physician to the Acquaviva counts in the 18th century. A 1797 document records a small loggia added to the house in breach of the count's rules. The complex was declared a national monument in 1930, bought by the municipality in 1986 and restored between 1993 and 1997.
The oldest part, facing Piazza Mario Pagano, has single-cell rooms with a fireplace and alcove. On the side of Piazza XXVII Maggio there is a two-storey block, rare in Alberobello. The rooms explain how trulli are built, agricultural activities and the day-to-day life of former families.
At weekends the museum often hosts reenactments and workshops on lace, music and traditional dances.
