About Chiesa di Sant'Antonio di Padova

The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio di Padova is located at the highest point of the Rione Monti, on Via Monte Pertica. It was built between March 1926 and May 1927 and, in 1945, became the second parish of Alberobello.

The building reproduces the form of the trulli on a larger scale: a Greek-cross plan, whitewashed walls and a conical stone dome 21 metres high. The bell tower beside it is just over 18 metres.

The interior is simple, with decoration by the Apulian artist Adolfo Ugo Rollo. The walk up to the church goes along Monti's steepest streets, among trulli and shops.

From the churchyard you can see part of the neighbourhood from above, with the conical roofs descending the slope.
