About Titanic Experience Cobh

The Titanic Experience is housed in the former White Star Line office building on Cobh's waterfront. It was from here that, on 11 April 1912, the last 123 passengers completed formalities and were taken in small boats called tenders out to the Titanic, anchored at the entrance to the harbour. Cobh, then Queenstown, was the ship's final stop before the sinking four days later.

The visit is guided and begins with the issue of a boarding card bearing the name of a real passenger who boarded at Queenstown. The route recreates first‑ and third‑class cabins, tells the stories of the Irish families on board—most travelling third class—and depicts the night of the sinking with images and sound effects. At the end, visitors find out whether their passenger survived.

Behind the building is the pier from which the tenders departed, the Heartbreak Pier, now in ruins and visible from the waterfront. Many Irish emigrants said farewell to their families on that pier before sailing for the United States and Canada.

A short walk away, the Cobh Heritage Centre, in the old railway station, tells the wider story of Irish emigration via the port of Cobh, from convict ships bound for Australia to the wreck of the Lusitania in 1915, whose survivors and victims were brought to the town. On the waterfront square, the Lusitania memorial and the Titanic memorial garden complete the visit.
