About Praia de Kamari
Kamari is the most developed beach in Santorini and the closest to Fira and the airport. It lies on the east side, at the foot of the Mesa Vouno mountain, which separates it from Perissa. The shore is made of dark sand and pebbles, with a long seafront promenade of restaurants, cafés, shops and accommodation right behind. It is organized, with umbrellas and sunbeds for much of its length.
In antiquity, Kamari was the port of Oia, one of the two anchorages of Ancient Thera. The road that climbs to the ruins on the mountain top starts at the southern tip of the beach; in season vans run the route. A trail also climbs from there.
The village has an open-air cinema that operates in summer, in a garden, showing films in English with Greek subtitles. It’s a late-evening option after the beach. The airport is just to the north, and planes fly low on approach.
The sea becomes deep near the edge in some stretches and the dark stones heat up. Kamari works well as a base for those who want a beach with services and frequent buses to Fira.

How to get there
KTEL bus from Fira, about 20 minutes, with frequent departures in summer. It's about 10 km from Fira and a few minutes from the airport. By car, there is parking behind the promenade.
Tip
Wear water shoes: the stones on the seabed can hurt. Take the van or the trail from the southern corner of the beach to Ancient Thera in the morning and return to the sea.
