About Les Champs Libres
Les Champs Libres is Rennes' major cultural centre, opened in 2006, located between Gare de Rennes and the historic centre. The building, with geometric forms, was designed by architect Christian de Portzamparc.
The same complex houses the city's largest library, the Espace des sciences with science exhibitions and a planetarium, and the Musée de Bretagne. There is also an auditorium, a café and temporary exhibition rooms.
The Musée de Bretagne tells the story of the region from prehistory to the present, with a collection of more than 600,000 objects and documents: tools, traditional costumes, furniture, photographs and items related to the Breton language and festivals. It's the best introduction to the culture you'll see on the streets.
The place is open all year, including Sundays, and is a good option on a rainy day.
