About Lac Blanc
The Lac Blanc is a high-altitude lake in the Aiguilles Rouges, at 2,352 meters, within the municipality of Chamonix. It lies in a nature reserve area, with rocks, small ponds and views of Mont Blanc, the Grandes Jorasses and the Aiguille Verte.
There is no cable car to the lake: access is on foot only. The most used path starts from the Flégère and takes about 1h30 to 2 hours to ascend, with sections of rock and metal ladders. Near the lake there is a mountain refuge with a restaurant in season.
The trail is usually snow-free from mid-June to September, and the lake can remain frozen until early summer. Outside that period, snow can cover the path and the outing requires equipment and experience.
On windless days, the mountains are reflected in the water. the Chéserys lakes, slightly below, are part of the same route.
