About Iglesia de San Bartolomé
The church of San Bartolomé is the oldest in Logroño. Construction began in the 12th century, and the apse and the lower part of the tower are still Romanesque. Work continued in the 13th century in the Gothic style, and the tower was later completed with a brick section in the Mudejar style.
The highlight is the portal, from the 14th century. It is a Gothic portal with successive arches and sculptures that tell, in 19 scenes, the martyrdom of San Bartolomé on one side and the discovery of his relics on the other, along with biblical passages and figures of saints. The stone figures retain details of clothing and expressions.
Inside, the church is restrained, with three naves and little decoration, in contrast to the portal. It was declared a national monument in 1866.
It lies on the Caminho de Santiago route through the old town, between the ponte de pedra and the co-cathedral, and near the Revellín wall.
