About Centre Pompidou Málaga

Centre Pompidou Málaga was the first branch of the Parisian centre outside France. It opened on 28 March 2015, and the agreement between the city council and the Centre Pompidou was renewed until 2035.

The building, called El Cubo, was designed by the municipal architects Javier Pérez de la Fuente and Juan Antonio Marín Malavé. It sits where Muelle Uno meets Paseo de la Farola. Most of the galleries are underground, and the roof is an open plaza with a large cube-shaped skylight of steel and glass.

On that cube, the French artist Daniel Buren created the installation Incubé in 2015, with coloured glass. It became the symbol of the centre, and the city council bought it in 2017.

The works come from the Pompidou collection in Paris. The semi-permanent exhibition changes roughly every two and a half years, with thematic selections of modern and contemporary art. Works by Frida Kahlo, Picasso, Francis Bacon, Magritte, Giacometti, Chagall and Miró have been shown there. There are also temporary exhibitions.
