About Campo de San Francisco
The Campo de San Francisco is Oviedo's main central park. The name comes from the Franciscan convent that once stood there and whose kitchen garden became the park. It features century-old trees, shaded paths, lakes with ducks and swans, fountains and statues, and the free-roaming peacocks are one of its trademarks.
The Paseo de los Álamos, on the Uría Street side, is the busiest area and hosts fairs on some days of the week. The park also has bandstands, secluded benches and children's play areas.
Near the park is the Campoamor theatre, Oviedo's opera house, opened in 1892 and named after the Asturian poet Ramón de Campoamor. It is there that each year in October the Prêmios Princesa das Astúrias award ceremony takes place, bringing together personalities from several countries.
The park lies between the old town and the modern part of the city, a few minutes from the train station.
