About Museo Etnográfico de Grado
The Museu Etnográfico e de História de Grado is part of the network of ethnographic museums of the Astúrias and displays the traditional culture of the central area of the region. It was established in 1982 by the Grado town hall and, since 1995, has been located in La Cardosa, on the edge of the village.
The exhibition begins with spelt, an ancient cereal that was a staple in the diet of Asturians, with a mill for hulling the grain and the machines and tools used from sowing through to bread. There is also a reconstruction of a typical regional house, with the kitchen as the center of family life.
Other rooms show the cider press (lagar de sidra), the tools used for agricultural work and workshops of traditional trades, such as the forge, carpentry and the making of madreñas, the wooden clogs used in the mud. One highlight is the workbench of a master craftsman who works with azeviche, a black stone used in jewelry and amulets.
It is a short visit to understand how life was in the Asturian countryside.
