About Palacio de Revillagigedo
The palacio de Revillagigedo, also known as that of the Marqués de San Esteban del Mar de Natahoyo, is located on the plaza del Marqués in Cimadevilla, facing the port. It is one of the most important examples of Asturian palace architecture from the 18th century.
It was commissioned in 1704 by Carlos Miguel Ramírez de Jove, the first marqués de San Esteban del Mar de Natahoyo, reusing a 15th-century Gothic tower that already stood on the site. Construction finished in 1721 under the direction of Francisco Menéndez Camina. The popular name comes from the title of counts of Revillagigedo, which later passed to the same family.
The façade is marked by two towers at the ends, joined by a central body with balconies and the family's coat of arms. The palace forms a complex with the adjacent former colegiata de San Juan Bautista. It was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1974.
Today the palace and the colegiata operate as a cultural center, hosting temporary art exhibitions.
