About Muelle Histórico
The Muelle Histórico is what remains of an old wooden pier on the shore of Puerto Natales, along the Pedro Montt waterfront avenue. The posts and part of the structure still stand, extending over the waters of Seno Última Esperanza. The pier used to serve cargo and passenger traffic when the town relied on the sea for nearly everything.
The darkened logs, lined up against the fjord and the opposite mountains, have become one of the city's most photographed spots. Cormorants and other seabirds frequently perch on the posts, and on some days black-necked swans appear near the shore.
The costanera stretches for several blocks and is Puerto Natales's most traditional walking route. Along the way there are benches, sculptures and viewpoints over the fjord, and a tourist information center is located near the pier.
The wind blows strongly on the waterfront most of the year. On calm days, the still water mirrors the posts and the mountains.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
From half an hour to an hour, including a stretch of the waterfront.
Best time
At dawn and at dusk, when the low light illuminates the fjord. In summer the sun sets very late, so it's possible to walk along the waterfront after dinner.
How to get there
It is on the Pedro Montt waterfront, a few blocks from Puerto Natales's Plaza de Armas. You can walk there from anywhere in the town center.
Tip
Bring a warm jacket even on sunny days: on the shore the wind makes it feel much colder. Do not climb on the posts or the old structure.
