About Plaza 9 de Julio
Plaza 9 de Julio occupies Salta's historic centre and shapes the first contact with the city. Trees and paths cross the block, surrounded by streets and buildings that help to understand the urban layout. It is a place to pass through and to pause between visits.
The Catedral Basílica sits on one side of the plaza, while the arches of the Cabildo appear on the opposite side. The Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña is also in this area. Observing the ensemble from the internal paths allows you to compare façades without relying on a single point on the pavement.
The visit does not require a fixed activity: walk along the avenues and choose which interiors to visit next. The plaza serves as a reference point to return to the centre after other routes. In the hottest months, it's worth spreading walks across the less sun-exposed periods.
